X-men Origins: Wolverine could be called the prequel to the X-men series, but it focuses, obviously, on the origin story of Wolverine. It tells his story from his childhood, in the 1840s, to when he loses his memory, in the 1970-80s. This essentially tells all the non-comic book readers what they didn't know about Wolverine when they saw the X-men movies. He fights in many wars, including the American Civil War, World War 1, World War 2, and Vietnam, shown in the beginning credit sequence, a good move so that more of the story can be told without lingering on these things. The movie focuses on Wolverine and his time with Weapon X, a top-secret mutant team that does the government's dirty work. When Sabretooth gets claw-happy, Logan decides to leave, but not before we get to see Deadpool (sadly, not in suit) in action for the first time on the big screen. Ryan Reynolds executed his performance quite well, and I only wish he had more screen time. Logan then continues through more adventure, including getting the adamantium bonded to his bones, giving him the signiature indestructible claws. I can't say much more without giving away the story, but I recommend seeing it if you are a comic or Wolverine fan, although they change some things, like Weapon X is not a team project, but Wolverine himself.

The game adaption takes the general storyline from the movie, but takes a great deal of creative lisence, creating foes such as lava monsters. That being said, this is without a doubt, the... best movie lisence game ever made; and for that matter pretty much the best superhero game I've ever played. The action is fairly constant, but it does not get boring. It is not a simple linear hack and slash typical movie hero game. There is a level up system, a great variety of enemies, and when you level up, you unlock more ways to eviscerate your varied foes. The health system is reminiscent of Splatterhouse. You can tell how messed up you are by how much of your body is ruined, but it heals back in real time. The wounds are realistic, and this is also the bloodiest game I've ever played. When I saw the preview, I was worried that it would be underplayed, candy coated. This game is intense. There is exploration, which helps you find health and combat bonuses. I also preordered, unlocking the Weapon X arena, with a ladder challenge (think one-man horde mode), environmental kill room (stick guys on poles and what-not), a room where you can pick any number of enemies you have fought and fight them, and a dismemberment room for the severley disturbed. I cannot express my pleasant surprise and excitement fully here, but this game is a solid 9/10. Finally, a fun, rated-M Wolverine game. IT'S ABOUT TIME.
