Annapolis Station, Earth Defense Grid

(And so the RP begins! Yes, official characters (at least, Hood) may show up from time to time. Anyway...)

"So, it's arriving today?"

"Yes sir. Taken fresh from Reach."

"Corvette, right?"

"Yes sir. And I assure you, this is the last request you shall have from this project. At least, until we get discovered and begin to take casualties."

"Our ships are valueable...I was reluctant to even grant you this request...but what you propose could turn the tide of this war."

"Indeed, sir. Ships may be in more ready supply if this project is completed. Which is why I have requested this single, additonal request. The Revenant Dawn will round out the small but generous fleet we have attached to this project, and I hear its compliment of Oribital Drop Shock Troopers is of considerable quality, even as far as they go."

Hood sighed, regarding the ONI officer before him.

"As do I...which is another reason why I was so reluctant to send her to your project." he said. "Just because we win most of our planetside battles doesn't mean that elite units are in any less of a demand than ships."

The ONI officer nodded.

"Of course, sir." he said. "But as you said, this project may well turn the tide of the war. Ships may be in less of a demand if they can surrvive their battles more often."

"The Dawn will be arriving shortly. You may inspect it, and then take it to Weather. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have many things to do. Dismissed."

"Thank you, sir." the ONI officer saluted, turned around, and headed to the airlocks/dockyard where the Revenant Dawn would be arriving.

Jack awoke in the cryo chamber. He had been thawed, and presently was coughing up a mineral rich mucus. He hated space travel. After showering, he went to his locker and donned his uniform; he had a meeting with ONI today. Something about being reassigned to a new fleet, something special the Navy had been cooking up. As special ops, he heard quite a bit more about these sorts of things than the average G.I., but was nonetheless still in the dark about most of the UNSC's projects.

Despite his dislike of space travel, he noted that he was glad to see his homeworld of Earth again. He didn't know how long it would be until next time. He went to the pelican loading bay, and strapped in, his armor stowed above him.

"Not used to taking the slow boat, are you?" Said the pilot.

"No, but it's a lot easier on the joints." Replied Ssgt. Hawkins.

The ONI officer stood in the hangar, waiting. He was watching, waiting in the hangar bay, to personally inspect the ODSTs that would be arriving soon. His department had requested them, yes, but he wanted to personally inspect them...not in the formal way, oh no, but by watching them, their demenor, their observations, their attire, and all of that, to get a gauge of just what type of soldiers they really were...

Jack was dressed in his formal attire, standard uniform. He walked silently in unison with a dozen other spec op ODSTs assigned to this new unit. When they reached the center of the hangar, they stopped, turned to face the officer, saluted, and awaited orders. The final footsteps echoed in the empty vastness of the building.

The officer approached Jack's unit, and returned their salute.

Slowly, he spoke.

"I am told that you are an exceptional unit..." he said. "...even as far as Orbital Drop Shock Troopers go. This is why you, and the ship you are assigned to, have been requested."

He began to pace in front of them.

"As you know," he continued. "the Office of Naval Intelligence is constantly working to tip the balance in favor of humanity in this war, despite the accusations of unethical practices that are often hurled at us-and our projects have met with resounding success. From infiltration missions, to accurately predicting enemy movements, to the Spartans, our efforts have been indispensible to humanity's struggle to surrvive. But despite them, we are still, slowly but surely, losing ground."

He turned to face the unit.

"We are not yet beaten, though, nor is ONI out of ideas. You have been requested for this operation because of your excellent performance record. It is, to put it frankly, guard duty. You will recieve the details later, but you will be tasked with guarding one of ONI's many labrotories on a planet the name of which I cannot disclose here, to ensure that the project it contains is developed smoothely, quickly, and without disturbance." he said.

He regarded each man in Jack's unit.

"Any questions?" he asked.

"Will we be seeing any action?" Said a man next to Jack. Jack himself hoped for action as well; he was ready to gut some freaks. It had been a few months.

The officer smiled, and spoke.

"Hopefully, no. The...enemy....has not found our destination yet, to our knowedge, and even if they know the actual location of the planet, the facility is hidden on it, the few ships tasked with guarding it do so from other systems. However...we would not have requested such a distinguished unit such as yours if we did not anticipate...interference with the research that is there. The scientists, their materials, and the research that they have is...crucial. WIth that said, further questions can be leveled at me along the way...I'm coming with you. As you were, men. Now, let's mount up."

With that, the officer made his way to the Pelican which brought the unit he had just addressed, and sat down in it.
